Soccer Star

So, after much procrastinating (on my part), Hannah got signed up for her first soccer team this spring. She was thrilled, to say the least and I was, well, a little unsure. Some of you may be asking, "What's the big deal?" But, for an athlete like myself who never once played soccer (unless you count the few weeks I attempted to play on an intramural team at Taylor), I was nervous. How can I help her (i.e. coach her!) if I don't know the sport? How can I cheer her on with the correct lingo, if I don't know the sport? Again, to some of you that might not seem like a big deal, but to me it was. I have played numerous sports in my life and they have all left me with lasting, special memories...memories I wanted Hannah to some how share. BUT, how can I share memories of soccer if I have none? Nevertheless, we went for it since it was her top choice of activities this spring and I must say, I've been pleasantly surprised at how things are going. :) That girl has skills! And, even though I still don't really know the rules, what the positions are called or frankly why in the world people like running around that much on a soccer field (HA!), I am so proud of her and am loving the excitement that she is showing each time she runs out on the field for practice or a game (well, the one and only game we've played so far because of all of the rain!).  And, if she wants to continue with soccer, instead of, oh let's say...tennis, I will swallow my pride and let her enjoy her little ol' self. :O)

Pictures from her first (and so far, only) game a few weeks ago!
We're hoping for dryer weather to get more games in!

it could be worse - DANCE! and a lot more expensive too. All you need to know: forward, midfield, defense, goalie and the object is to get the ball in the net w/o using your hands. See? Now you are a pro - oh, and a little thing called off sides...I'll teach that next time. Willing to give free lessons - just say the word! :)
