I can't let Ellie out of my sight for more than a minute now b/c she heads right for the stairs...again and again and again!! Forget playing with toys, it's all about climbing the stairs!

The next shots are from a little photo shoot I had with Hannah before she left for a birthday party yesterday. Brian and I couldn't believe how old she looks here...she is growing up TOO fast!

J is for...

Before reading the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho tonight with Hannah, Brian asked her if she remembered who fought in Jericho. She sat for a minute and thought and then said, "Jerry." (I was putting Ellie to bed and heard the laughter from the next room!) After they stopped to catch their breath, Brian tried prompting her a little more by saying, "Ja" "Ja" (of course hoping she'd fill in the "shua" part). Instead she said, "Ja" "Johnny?" Again, laughter erupted! Hannah didn't know why it was so funny, but she loved laughing all the same. :O) I'm sure she won't forget now who fought the battle of Jericho!

p.s. if you want to laugh even harder, try singing the "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" filling in Jerry and Johnny instead of Joshua...too funny!

The Giere Girls

Life has carried on as usual since we came back from MI. Hannah is taking a gymnastics class for 3 year olds and loves it! I was able to watch through the doorway on Tues (parents are asked to wait outside so we don't distract the budding gymnasts) and watching her wait patiently in line with the others, listen to her teacher and try so hard at the exercises was so heartwarming. It's impossible to not smile when you're watching 3 year olds tumble around and hang from a big bar with their legs in a straddle! :O)

We've been in this kind of in-between stage for a few months in terms of Hannah napping or not during the day. Usually, if she naps, she doesn't want to go to bed at her normal bedtime, but if she doesn't nap, there are times when she's not so fun to be around. (but, we can put her to bed early!) I prefer the latter so that Brian and I can have a good amount of time to ourselves in the evening after both girls go to bed. However, there are some days when I know poor, little Hannah just needs some sleep. The other day, it was getting late in the afternoon, so I didn't want her to fall asleep and suggested she watch a movie on the computer while I made dinner. While she was sitting on the bar stool w/ her feet up, she put her head back and actually fell asleep!! I couldn't believe it! Don't worry, we woke her up right away so that she wouldn't fall off the chair...poor thing.

It looks staged, but it's not...she really is sleeping in these pictures!

Ellie is now truly crawling and standing up next to things. She also loves to "walk" while holding our hands and it makes her quite proud of herself. She's been eating more table foods lately too...she's particularly fond of bananas, watermelon and cheese. While eating these yummy foods, she's developed a rather messy habit of running her hands through her hair...again and again! Needless to say, her hair becomes one, slimy, sticky mess by the time she's done! Tonight I washed it out with a wash cloth after dinner and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a little fun with her hairdo. :O)

So, we bought a cottage this past weekend. Okay, it's only 4 1/2 feet high and sits in our backyard, but it's still a cottage. :O)This was our big weekend garage sale purchase...a little crazy, but I know it's going to bring the girls a ton of enjoyment and we got a great deal on it. (I've been sort of looking into something like this and found this one at a garage sale in our neighborhood and after a little bargaining w/ the seller, we took it home. :O)

(you can see our new fence in this picture...we love it and so does Gabby!! She finally has some freedom!)

As promised...

Sorry it took me a while to post more pictures from MI. I have no excuse...

Big Week

Ellie had a big week this past week. She learned how to clap, she's basically crawling, she's saying "da-da" and "ma-ma" and well, she's just being adorable. ;O)

We've been trying to teach Hannah the concept of forgiveness...when we need to ask for forgiveness and when we need to give it. Well, after a major act of disobedience yesterday morning, I was again, talking to her about it. I thought I had set up the conversation well enough that she would, of course, say she was sorry and ask for my forgiveness. But, of course, she's 3 1/2 so it didn't go exactly as planned. This is how it went...

Me - So, is there something you'd like to tell me Hannah?
Hannah - (rather sheepishly) I forgive you.
Me - (trying not to laugh) No, sweetie, you need to tell me that you're sorry and then I will forgive you. So, what should you say?
Hannah - (in a not-so-sincere way) I'm sorry.
Me - (frustrated) I don't know if I believe you. Are you REALLY sorry?
Hannah - No. Just a little bit sorry.
Me - (putting my head down b/c I started laughing, I turned her around to face Brian who was sitting there) Talk to your Daddy.

Oh boy, are we in for it!!!! :O)

Could it be???? Could Hannah's hair actually be turning curly???

She's so proud of herself and so are we!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all of the Daddies out there! (I'm actually quite sure there aren't too many reading my blog, but that's okay). We had a great day with the Johaniks and Grandma Giere (Grandpa Giere is in Hungary right now...we missed you!). After lunch, the kids played in the pool for literally 2 1/2 hours straight and needless to say, Hannah was exhausted when it was time to go! We really wanted to keep her awake on our way home at 5:30 and it was nearly impossible. I had to resort to tickling (she didn't laugh) and slightly pinching her leg (I promise that I didn't make it hurt...just annoy her). She was not too pleased with me, but she DID stay awake! After having some dinner, she perked up a little, but was still ready for bed by 7:15. What a great day! :O)

Here are a few pictures from the past few days...

This was taken right before Ellie's afternoon nap. She was so tired and Hannah wanted to hold her, so I put laid her on the floor with her head on Hannah's lap. Hannah was SO sweet. She stroked Ellie's head and spoke sweetly to her...she is such a good little mommy!

Ellie loves to stand up by things now! She doesn't pull herself up by herself yet, but if we stand her next to something, she thinks she's pretty hot stuff!

We went to this fabulous park in downtown Naperville Saturday night and had a great time, despite the heat. :O) I think Hannah loves the independence and adventure she can have running around the playground at the park.

Daddy and Ellie sharing a precious moment at the park (without knowing the camera was on them) ;O).

Catching up...

We got a new camera recently and I didn't realize that the pictures are saved MUCH larger than our old camera. Therefore, the past few days when I've tried to upload pictures to the blog, it just didn't work b/c they were too big...until today when I figured it out. So, sorry about that!

Playing with her new water hop-scotch on a hot day!

All tuckered out...

Faith like a child

Shortly after waking up and making our way downstairs this morning Hannah and I had the following conversation.

Hannah - "Mom, I can feel my heartbeat."
Me - "You can?"
H - "Yes, and I think Jesus is calling me."
Me - "What is He saying to you?"
H - "That I'm going to be the most beautiful ballerina in all of the world."
Me - "Wow! That's great!"
H - "Mom, I think Jesus is calling you too."
Me - "What is he saying?"
H - "I don't know."

Yummy Biter Biscuit!!
